| Up until the mid 19th century just about all buildings were constructed using lime. Cement and gypsum came into more prevalent use when faster setting mortars were required. Lime mortars are slower to work with but are more forgiving, user friendly, and durable yet permeable. Horse hair is also used to strengthen where a softer aggregate is needed. | |
